um this trend of films trying to subvert older material by inserting minorities into roles that make them look like monsters (ex. an all girls version of lord of the flies that defies the patriarchal context of the novel and heathers (2018) putting a black lesbian + nonbinary person in place of the originally white / blonde / rich heathers to bully their super white ex-best friend) needs to die immediately

Ugh shutup, so minorities can’t play villians anymore? All girl lord of the flies would be interesting and maybe they’re changing the story. Also having black lesbian representation in my fave movie is lit af, idc what role they play, you can’t always be the hero.

cool so listen like i’m really glad that you enjoy having representation watered down and handed to you on a diversity 101 platter but not me sis! lord of the flies was commentary on the patriarchy and toxic masculinity the author himself said that placing women in this kind of environment would not have the same results as with men and that was literally the entire point like the book was written in response to people thinking that white british men were the personification of civilization! and also the only thing the heathers reboot is going to do is going make the audience root for veronica as she is tormented by a scary black lesbian and her evil nonbinary counterpart like i’m really not interested in yet another piece of media centered around protecting white femininity and it honestly would have made much more sense if veronica was casted as black / lesbian / nonbinary but because they didn’t do that there is now a false dichotomy! there is such thing called nuance when creating diverse content but not everyone has the range to grasp such conceptuals
