I could spout reams on this Truth. But to summize, missionary work purposefully targets the desperate. The work is unskilled and poorly done and serves as a restricted hand out, not a hand up nor a no strings hand out. It preys on the communities it purports to help. The rape, enslavement, and human trafficking rates in mission areas are ridiculous. Most “mission trips” are short forays into poverty porn. The local community has to deal with the repurcussions (from shoddy workmanship to disease) for years and even generations. If you truly want to help these communities you would support policies that support and protect them, defund the military, and give the money you’d spend on the trip or missionary directly to the community.
