Roy Moore might have lost the election, but let’s not forget:

That roughly half of Alabamians knowingly and willingly voted for a pedophile

That a man who believes homosexuality should be illegal and Muslims shouldn’t hold public office has been a federal judge responsible to uphold American law

That Moore believes the Amendments past 10 should be eliminated, and he almost represented a state in Congress

That not only Trump, but the entire RNC chose to back Moore

That Black Alabamians (specifically black women) are the main reason for this political upset

That these Black voters were not targeted by Jones until the very end because of fear of losing the white vote

That Black Alabamians changed this vote DESPITE disenfranchisement and institutional hurdles

That there are more elections coming in 2018 and 2020

That if a Democrat can win Alabama, then the Republican Party better be shaking in their cowboy boots

It’s definitely a positive thing that all these sexual predators in Hollywood are getting outed, but I hope we’re also prepared to make the connection between these allegations and exactly why so many former child stars end up dead or institutionalised before they turn 30. These are not unconnected phenomena. Like, I realise the whole “former child star meltdown” meme is a comedy goldmine, but maybe some awareness of what we’re really laughing at?

Okay I gave in to temptation and peeked at the only anti blog I know and they have managed to pull BOTH 1 and 2, they’re insisting that sheith is still pedophila because 18 is “basically a child” AND they no longer ship klance because it no longer meets their standards of absolute moral purity

What a time to be alive

I’m like…sitting here resisting the urge to check up on the few anti blogs I know of to see which direction they’re taking this news.  I feel like there’ll be three potential outcomes:

  1. Continue screaming that sheith is pedophilia despite the fact that Keith is in fact a legal adult
  2. Hold to their idea that at midnight on our 18th birthday everyone undergoes a Sims-like transformation from A Literal Toddler to Tax-Paying Card-Carrying Adult and proceed to attack klance with the same fervor they previously reserved for sheith
  3. Quietly remake and fade into obscurity

My favourite thing about the Voltron discourse?
– It’s entirely made up.

Because when you think about it, every problem in the Voltron fandom was created by the fandom itself.

  • “Shiro is 25″

You got that from a video where 25 was said to be the “top range”, meaning Shiro isn’t older than that. He can still be anywhere from 19 to 25, but you keep insisting that your interpretation is the correct one while all others are wrong.

  • “The other paladins are 16″

Again, they were said to be in their late teens. If “teens” starts at 13 and ends at 20, 16 is the middle. “Late teens” would equal anything from 17 to 19, but again – you think everyone who interprets it differently than you does so to offend you personally.

  • “Allura was made a teen so Kallura could become canon”

Allura was never said to be an adult to begin with. Y’all just saw a dark-skinned girl act vaguely mature and decided that she must become the “mom character” and cater to everyone’s needs.

  • “Lotor is a rapist” 

Sincline was a rapist. In the Japanese original. That no one of you bothered to watch anyways. Any excuse you come up with to hate a character that hasn’t made an appearance in the show yet is a direct product of your own imagination. Just like any other complaint you have about the show and its writers, really.

  • “Voltron is queerbaiting”

There’s no indications of romance in the actual show yet. The only queerbaiting nonsense comes from people that keep insisting their ship is canon – when it isn’t. LGBT+ representation is very possible, but other ships you’re constantly tearing down are LGBT+ as well. You don’t care about representation, you only care about whether your ship becomes canon or not.

Queerbaiting is an issue, but your favourite mlm/wlw pairing not being endgame is not “queerbaiting”. Stop misusing words like pedophilia, heteronormativity, homophobia, queerbaiting, gaslighting & abuse. You can dislike something without it having to be morally wrong. 

Admit you don’t like the thing. Blacklist it. Move on. It’s as simple as that.

You’ll always find something to get mad over if you just look hard enough.
