(Note: I know this is very poor bird handling technique. But she doesn’t understand she needs to turn around because of brain damage, and I’d already had to have someone pull her off my head that morning so I was tired of arguing with her poor confused little self.)
The prettiest bird!
I said he had his fluffy sass-pants on and he proceeded to be the biggest shithead ever I love him
The kestrel’s getting all twitterpated in anticipation of spring!
Soar to new heights 🦅 Be a keen observer 🦅 Swoop down on opportunities 🦅 Rise above it all 🦅 Spread your wings 🦅 Find a field that suits you 🦅 The sky’s the limit!
Sit and do nothing for most of the day 🦅 Scream when things displease you🦅Get really fluffy when you are relaxed🦅Eat absurd amounts of food in one sitting🦅Know you are a fearsome predator, and revel in this knowledge🦅
Now that’s some accuracy
I didn’t go to birds last week bc I was too sick. I think they missed me.
(Yes, the scream boi is missing an eye. All my raptors I work with are permanently disabled, in his case a collision with a car left him blind and deaf on his left side.)
Sister’s rat passed an hour ago and my rat is running up MORE vet bills by ripping her incision open and I am keeping myself sane by looking at how beautiful my favorite bird is so all of you should look at her too.
He was getting a post-hunt drink, and I was splashing water with my fingers as that usually entices him to bathe. No luck. He doesn’t like bathing when the weather is cooler.
Also yes his perch is huge. It was built for a red tail. But Nel has a particular liking of red tail sized perches. 🤷♀️😂
@betaslovelythings replied to your post “i feel like tomorrow my friend at the raptor center is going to…” Raptor center???
Indeed! On Sunday mornings I volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation center. I work with disabled permanent residents, like this girl:
(yes that is my hand in this pic, under the protective glove) I do educational outreach when I have free time and Sundays are spent caring for the ambassador birds (feeding, scrubbing poop, helping with medical checks and weigh-ins, etc). I used to post very excited posts every week but it’s actually gotten routine now so I often forget xD
The peregrine falcon got a Christmas quail and she ate the entire thing and her crop was so stuffed she couldn’t put her chin down.
I hope everyone’s having as good a day as the peregrine!
