Remember that time George Lucas casually inserted the dialogue “you’re shorter than I expected” when Anakin Skywalker encounters General Grievous in Episode III, indicating that he had never seen him before? And then they made a tv show set *before* those events and Dave Filoni had to spend 6 seasons doing narrative backflips to keep these two, the main protagonist and a major antagonist, from ever meeting face to face? Because of one throwaway line? Remember that?
I do. It’s my favorite goddamn obscure Star Wars trivia please put it on my fucking gravestone.
The strongest stars have hearts of kyber.

Hayden Christensen in ‘First Kill’ (2017)
Um… ok, who else had the first thought of “Never fallen Jedi Knight Anakin faces down one of the Emperor’s agents when said agent is trying to kidnap Luke?”
This is plot bunny gold!
It’s not much @letslipthehounds but here’s a quick snippet?…
“Let go of my son. Right now.”
Not for the first time Anakin’s fingers itch for the security of his lightsaber, but the days when he could safely carry it on his person are long gone, and the Emperor’s karking leech rat caught them by surprise. The blaster rifle will just have to do.
The Inquisitor laughs bringing his blade closer to his captive’s throat. “I think not, Skywalker. You have no idea how eager my Master is to speak to you again. And what a wonderful surprise it will be for him to meet your son…” he looks down briefly at the child held by his side. “Providing of course, you co-operate appropriately.”
Luke for his part is obviously fighting to keep the fear from his face and Anakin can feel his anger start to rise. He quashes it with great effort. He cannot afford to slip up now. He looks the Inquisitor straight in the eye, pushing with the Force. “I said. Let. Him. Go.”
The Inquisitor is well trained, but Anakin is powerful and for just a moment he begins to waver.
Which is when a flurry blaster bolts appears out of nowhere, headed straight for the side of scum sucker’s face.
Trained reflexes are a powerful thing, and without thinking the Inquisitor moves his saber to deflect the shots. Anakin doesn’t hesitate. The Emperor’s agent looks surprised as he falls, a large hole punched straight through his chest.
“DADDY!!!”
There is a hard impact against his hip and Anakin automatically crouches, wrapping an arm around Luke and holding him tight against his body. The Inquisitor may be dead but it does not mean the danger is past.
“Shh Luke, it’ll be alright.” He whispers comfortingly. “Uncle Obi and Leia are waiting for us at the ship, and then we can go home. But until we get there I need you to be very quiet ok?”
“Ok.” Luke sniffles softly.
“Good.”
With one last hug Anakin turns his attention to their surroundings. Extending his senses, the docking bay feels empty. Not that it means much. With the Empire their tails even Anakin has had to learn how to completely hide himself in the Force. He imagines it’s much the same for any other Force users who might be roaming the galaxy. While it’s possible their rescuer may have already fled, he cannot rule out the other option.
Taking care to position himself in front of his son, Anakin carefully stands and loudly addresses the emptiness.
“I don’t know who you are, but you have my thanks.”
There’s a faint flare in the Force but before Anakin can find himself pondering it’s familiarity a tall figure emerges from the shadows.
“That’s ok. I can hardly let you have all the fun can I, Skyguy?”
And Anakin cannot breath because she’s taller now, her voice a little deeper, but the face looking at him with a heartbreaking mixture of hope and disbelief is undeniably….
“Ahsoka.” He breathes, joy rising though him in a rush of emotion even as he lowers his rifle.
She walks closer and now he can see the hint of tears in her eyes. “Hey Ma… Anakin. It’s good to see you again.”
He can feel her now and it is her. Ahsoka! Alive and well and here! He opens his arms wide and the next moment he is hugging her tight, full of love and relief. He can feel his cheeks hurting from the size of his grin and if they’re also a little wet then he’s sure she can keep a secret. “You too Snips.” He says against her cheek. “I’ve missed you so much.”
“Ahsoka? Like the stories?”
Luke’s interjection seems to take them both by surprise, and with some reluctance Anakin breaks their embrace to smile at his son.
“Exactly like the stories. Luke, this is your Aunt Ahsoka. Ahsoka, I’d like you to meet my son, Luke.”
The seven year old looks awestruck and to be honest Ahsoka isn’t much better. And for the first time in years, Anakin’s family is almost complete.
So I was reminded of one of the bits in my WIP folder and finally got inspired to finish it off. This is a direct sequel to a ficlet I wrote a long while back, and won’t make much sense without having read that first.
I hope you all enjoy 🙂
It feels like one of her dreams. How many times has she found herself in the old days, chasing after her master as they rush through empty corridors, only to wake to a much colder and darker reality? Except, the Anakin in front of her seems a fraction smaller than Ahsoka remembers, a little more worn and much more subdued, and none of her dreams include the face of a small blond child grinning at her from his perch on his father’s shoulders.
Luke. Anakin’s son. Anakin has a son. Anakin is alive. The thoughts keep running around in her head, even as she automatically takes cover to avoid a wandering patrol. It won’t be long now before they find the body, and they need to be gone soon if they want to avoid lockdown. Which brings her right back to the beginning because how could she ever have expected this?
